It’s been a slow weekend for entertainment news, but What’s Hot has got what you want!
Lisa Marie Presley and her husband, Michael Lockwood, welcomed twin girls into their lives on Tuesday. No names for the twins who weighed in at 5 pounds 15 ounces and 5 pounds 2 ounces. Presely, daughter of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis and Prisilla Presley, has two older children; Riley, 19 and Benjamin, 15. “She wanted it really to be kept a secret for a long time,” the singer’s mother, Priscilla Presley, told Entertainment Tonight, which broke the news. “And I think women should, because they should be able to announce what they’re having and when it’s time to make the announcement.” Mom and babies are resting comfortably. What’s Hot talks about last night’s Emmy awards. I hope you enjoyed the liveblogging of the show, but here we are to discuss the winners, the losers, and the fashion in a little more depth.
Let’s start off with the fashions, shall we? Christina Applegate wore a Reem Acra number that many seem to be praising. But I’m going to say what I said last night in my live blog, it looks like she just took a bolt of fabric and wrapped it around herself. No offense Christina, but it just doesn’t do it for me. Now Julia Louis Dreyfuss’ Narciso Rodriguez salmon number was to die for. I wish I could pull off that color. America Ferrera was stunning in black Fred Leighton, proving that real women do have curves. (more…)

Okay, we open the show with celebs saying famous tv quotes, very funny.
Oprah is looking good. I do quite like that red dress. She’s joking about her influence on people who watch TV, it gets a good laugh.
Now the hosts. Heidi is sporting a tux, very dashing and daring. Jeff should have put on a tie. He looks like the odd man out without one. Howie brings out the first political joke. (more…)

I am more than a little disappointed in some of the choices, or rather ignoring some of the better choices that could have been made. Most of it is the big networks fault too. They promote their flagship shows to draw more advertising dollars for the winners and ignore or purposefully don’t submit some of their cable shows.
Take this example. BSG (Battlestar Gallactica) run on the Sci-Fi Channel. Sci-Fi is owned by NBC. Fans and critics alike all think it is a superb show, with great acting from the likes of Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, both Oscar nominees.
The show gets nominated for technical and writing awards, but the show itself and the actors fail to get nominated for the big prizes. It isn’t that they couldn’t compete, the fine actors big name or not are wonderful at their craft. The networks are actually afraid of them winning. It all boils back down to advertising dollars.
If a niche show wins a big Emmy because the people are good the actors can demand more money. On the other hand it is still a niche network with a smaller audience and the ad revenue isn’t going up very much even for a win. I can understand the economic reason, but I don’t have to like it. Fine actors like Jamie Bamber, Aaron Douglas, James Callis, or Katee Sackhoff deserve to be recognized by more than those of who watch the show for how wonderful they are.
Here are the List of Big Emmy Nominations: (more…)
