I was stunned by this weeks departure of Kourtni Lind. I wasn’t so surprised by Matt going, but I am highly disappointed by Kourtni’s dismissal, not just because of my crush on her either. Nigel seemed to be very bitter about it too. I can understand it in him.
We won’t ever know the full details about what went on behind the scenes, but here is what I think might have happened. There was never any real danger to Courtney Galiano with the way she performed this week. When you compare Kourtni Kind with Comfort Fedoke, Kourtni was without a doubt in my mind the superior dancer with a record of proving it. If this was like American Idol and the black woman was chosen for a less performance, I would have screamed bloody murder. responding to every blog I could find that said how wonderful Comfort was and agreeing with everyone who said they weer trying to please a demographic. This decision however was not about Kourtni nor Comfort.
This post could have just as easily been title It Is All About The Thayne. Thayne Jasperson actually came alive this week not just with his solos, but his performance skills shined too. It was tough competition for everyone and someone had to be in the bottom three. I think America did get it right too, despite my crush on Kourtni. This showdown was between Matt who we had seen better from and Thayne who was growing. The choice was obvious. However the other choices were not so obvious.
If they had let Matt and Comfort both go, this would have made for a seriously odd pairing between Thayne and Kourtni. The only thing they have in common is both being girls from Utah. I know he has a penis, some of the outfits have made that obvious, but he still acts more girlly than either of his partners. Kourtni is tall, graceful and let’s not forget beautiful, while Thayne is short and compact. Had that pair drawn a Mia Michael’s contemporary or some sort of story telling hip hop routine, they might have been able to pull it off. However it is already hard enough for the available choreographers to design a routine with tall people in mind, as had been proven several weeks running. It would have been next to impossible to put her opposite the far shorter Thayne for any traditional styles without making her the man. Seeing her in a tux and him in a dress would only have been funny and might have carried the day, could have actually worked to point out that not everyone feels comfortable in the body they are in. it would have proven something Jason Looney never could have
While I am disappointed to not have Kourtni Lind coming back this week, I can see the reasoning behind letting her go. She didn’t stand a chance in hell of winning with anyone other than Twitch as her partner, and then would still face tough completion from the shorter Kherington Payne, Chelsie Hightower and Katee Sheen. On the other hand the judges were giving Thayne just one more chance to find some chemistry with Comfort. I do believe it is her last week, just because she is the weakest overall dancer in a very strong pack of women. Thayne however does in my opinion have the potential to make it into the top ten by eliminating Gev or Mark. Partnering with either Courtney Galiano or Jessica King would dramatically increase his chances of moving on in the competition, possibly as high as the top six.
Good bye my beautiful Kourtni we will miss you and those long powerful legs. Every time I see Kherington doing well with Twitch I will think about who you should have been partnered with from the beginning. We shall once again see the Beautiful Kherington Payne, extremely hot Courtney Ann Galiano, and the ever so adorable Katee sheen again next week.
