A very sad edition of What’s Hot for today.
As many of our readers probably know already, Ocsar winner and screen legend Paul Newman passed away yesterday at age 83. The man known for his roles in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Hud, The Color of Money and Cars had been battling cancer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne Woodward, his daughters, several grandchildren and a brother. Newman was also well known for his philanthropic efforts which included The Hole in the Wall Gang and the Newman’s Own line of food products whose profits went to charity. “Paul Newman played many unforgettable roles. But the ones for which he was proudest never had top billing on the marquee,”said his daughters in a statement to the press. His Butch and Sundance co-star Robert Redford said, “I have lost a real friend. My life – and this country – is better for his being in it.” Paul was a legend, I have always admired him, considered him a sex symbol and thought that his eyes, even though they dimmed with age, were the bluest I’ve ever seen. You will be missed Mr. Newman.
In a quick follow up to yesterday’s news about the Project Runway injunction, I have news about the show’s sixth season. According to a spokesperson for The Weinstein Company, production on the sixth season will continue. Casting has already been completed — and production was under way on both coasts — for the new cycle, which is being executive-produced by Bunim-Murray Productions. The company was hired by Lifetime and Weinstein to replace Runway’s original producers, Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of Magical Elves, who signed an exclusive development deal with NBC Universal after Lifetime picked up Runway. No word as to which network the show would air on though.
Tina Fey was onced again lured back to Saturday Night Live to play Republican Vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin last night. She was again paired with Amy Poehler who played Katie Couric this time in a parody of the interview Palin gave on CBS earlier this week. As the political campaigns kick into high gear I have to wonder how many more times producers will be able to convince Fey to comback as Palin.
More tomorrow!
