What’s Hot and happening for today? Keep reading to find out! Possible casting spoilers for Heroes, CSI:NY and Pushing Daisies in this edition.
Lionsgate has excercised their option for a third season of the Emmy winning Mad Men. But who will be at the helm? Negotiations between the company and exectutive producer/creator Matthew Weiner are still ongoing. Weiner spent the weeks leading up to and after his Emmy win making the rounds of major studios and networks to see how much he could get for a new overall deal. Armed with that knowledge, Lionsgate’s camp is hoping to cut a two-year deal with Weiner and use that as leverage to secure a fourth season of Mad Men from AMC. The other possibility is that Weiner could cut a development deal with another shop and with Lionsgate to continue as showrunner on Mad Men. Keep an eye on What’s Hot for any and all developments.
There has been much speculation over how Oliver Stone was going to approach the task of making a movie about a sitting president. Well,”W” is getting ready to be released to the public and the critics are weighing in. It seems that the man who brought us JFK and Nixon is losing his edge. USA Today gives it 3 out of 4 stars but says the film falls short and is not very probing. MSN is harsher giving it 2 1/2 stars out of 5, stating that the film could have been great but is “overly conventional”. And Entertainment Weekly grades it at a C plus with equally harsh criticism for Stone. The one shining beacon in all of the reviews is Josh Brolin’s performance as George W. Bush, the focus of the movie. The critics use words like “outstanding” and “award winning” to describe Brolin’s performance. Josh will be hosting Saturday Night Live tonight and one does wonder if the writers will put him in a sketch playing the commander in chief. The film opened yesterday if you want to go and make up your own mind.
And last, but not least, TV scoop. CSI: NY has collared Kristin Cavallari for a major guest turn. The aspiring actress will play an up-and-coming handbag designer who presumably finds herself involved in a criminal investigation in an early 2009 episode. Pushing Daisies has extended David Arquette’s forthcoming stint as “freshcort” Randy Mann. Arquette, who debuts in next Wednesday’s episode, will return later this season “to have a nice little romance with Kristin Chenoweth,” reveals series creator Bryan Fuller. Zeljko Ivanek, who just won an Emmy for Damages, will be making an appearance on Heroes. He’ll appear in a multi-episode arc as a character named the Hunter. According to insiders, the Hunter’s first appearance is in episode 14, which kicks off Volume Four: Fugitives (which is being written by creator Tim Kring).
