Circus or Freak Show

Having been hand a demo of Britney Spears upcoming album Circus I was loathe to actually listen to it and really didn’t want to review but this was the first bit of prerelease I have had in my possesion for a while . I was actually surprised I liked the first track Womanizer. The song synth pop beat took me back to a time in the mid eighties. The second track Circus has a similar feel and beat to her first big hit, Baby One More Time. The lyrics and vocals have matured, but it still has that catchy beat. Kill The Lights is much the same way for me vocally more mature but still with that dance beat that she debuted with. Shattered glass will be a song popular with fans of Oops I did it again.

Most of the other tracks are a mix of old and new Britney Spears which is either a circus or freak show depending on how you feel about her. The songs are filled with danceable synth pop and forgetable lyrics. There are two songs that really stand out for me though. Out From Under could be an anthem for anyone who wants to make a clean break from their past, something that would be very good for her. It would be good to see her move wild child to mother and no what her real priorities should be.

The last song that really struck me is My Baby. My daughter having been born just nine days ago made this somewhat of a special song for me. When it came on and spoke of tiny hands, my baby, had hers wrapped around my finger and it was just a moment frozen for me. None of the other lyrics really matter, but the whole tone of the song not only kept me listening but made it a worth iTunes pruchase.

I feel like buzz of Miley Cyrus being killed in a car accident were floating about a month or so ago, but then again, celebrity death hoaxes seem common. Some people have a sick way of entertaining themselves.

So, bottom line - did Miley Cyrus die? No. All’s good with our girl Miley.

Miley Cyrus Dead From A Drunk Driver

Spreading false death rumors in cyberspace has been very rampant lately, and many celebrities have already been victimized. But like I said in my Lil Wayne “death” post, it may well work to their advantage. For one, the publicity is good. After all, even bad publicity is good for their careers sometimes. For another, according to some Asian superstitions, false death rumors will only bring the victim longer life.

I’m sure this is not the end of this. Rumors about Miley Cyrus dying in another way will surface again in a few months, and judging from the trend at which these hoaxes appear on the web, expect the next one in January! He he.

Is Miley Cyrus Dead? I don’t know and I hope not. Of course this is about the third time she has died this year. Rumor was a couple months ago she died in an LA car accident, but was miraculously reincarnated for a New York movie premier on the same day. Even earlier in the year she died in another car accident but was seen later on that afternoon shoe shopping. While it would be likely be easy to mistake the gorgeous young woman as a goddess if we got to see her naked ass, I just don’t think she has that sort of recuperative power as a mere human. Shit it took Jesus an entire weekend to raise from the dead. While Bernie could be passed off as alive during a weekend, Miley Cyrus was always a little more animated and the public has seen that movie.

A story said to be written by Rueters [sic] circulated the internet full of misspellings:

Actress Miley Cyrus Died in Terrible Car Accident

Teen star of the hit Disney television series “Hannah Montana” Miley Cyrus appears to have died in a tragic car accident in the early hours of Friday morning. The young starlet was on her way to the filiming [sic] of the upcoming “Hannah Montanna” [sic] Series when her vehicle was reportedly hit by a large truck. Witnesses estimate that the colliding vehicle was travelling [sic] at “At least 55mph” and had “Run a stop sign.” Although rushed in a [sic] critical condition to Pacific Alliance Medical Centre [sic], the news broke quickly amongst reporters that the teen had succumbed to her injuries during surgery.

Where will she rise from the dead tomorrow? It is hard to say, but like Lazarus she will rise again. For the record she will probably die again before the year is over too.

Will The Dark Knight soon be joining the company of Lord of The Rings: Return of the King, Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest and Titanic? It may already be there, acccording to some sources. As of midweek, box office numbers had the blockbuster at $996 million dollars, so it’s quite likely that with unreported grosses, TDK is number four on that very exclusive list. But why isn’t the studio crowing with triumph? Warner Brothers may very well be waiting for the DVD release which is on December 9. Warners is boosting The Dark Knight’s release by 200-plus theaters this weekend. Is this an attempt to boost the already great numbers for the film.

Former Disney queen, Hilary Duff, has signed an exclusive, one-year talent and development contract with NBC to star in her own series as well as guest-star in current shows, though no details on the deal have been released at this time. “Hilary is an incredibly versatile talent with a huge following whose career we know will continue to soar on NBC,” said Teri Weinberg, Executive Vice President, NBC Entertainment. ”We are confident we will develop great ideas that would feature her vast talents and are thrilled to have this opportunity.” Last spring, Duff reportedly turned down the opporunity to star in the CW’s 90210 reboot, saying she was seeking material beyond the scope of teen fare. Duff is best known for her turn in Disney’s Lizzie McGuire.

Yesterday on NPR’s Talk of the Nation I heard and interesting story on the effects of music you love on your heart. This isn’t the first time I heard of head-heart connections, but it was the first time I have ever heard it qualified with music. The study in the story basically found if you listen to music you love, you get the same kind of physical reactions you get from exercise. They reasoned this is why you always feel better after having heard one of your favorite songs.

To be fair said any sort of pleasurable activity could bring about these sorts of physical head-heart reactions and that they really weren’t sure why yet. There was some suggestions that it might be an endorphin release. On the flip side of this was if you listen to music you dislike it had measurable adverse reactions. The other oddity was if you like the music you can get desensitized and lose the effect, but if you disliked the music the adverse grew. This would explain why everyone in retail is so bitch by Christmas, just think how many times a day they hear the same damned Christmas songs, starting in about mid October.

To avoid the desensitizing effect of your favorite music they suggest going two weeks between listenings. I can easily buy that, there were plenty of songs on the radio in the eighties and nineties that I quickly grew tired of. However when I hear them by chance or choice today I find myself in one of my happy youthful places, it is even better when I get to sing along, something Katy has forbidden me to do publicly and sometimes even privately. I can’t wait until she goes back to work.

What was odd while writing this I happened to see Google Trends and was surprised to see how many musical and lyrical searches were hot at the moment. I was instantly interested in Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” which was being searched for under “in your eyes lyrics“. Rock of Ages was being searched out. While not in reference to Def Leopard’s Rock of Ages I still felt something emotional pull about for the music and actually made me say “Gunter glieben glauten globen”. What I couldn’t fathom was why anyone would search for the “Brady Bunch lyrics“. This is a song you should know by heart even if you hate the retched thing. More lyrical searches included “pretty young thing lyrics“. It isn’t a song I am familiar with but I do like pretty young things so I will have to have a more detailed search later. Still other lyric searches brought out “Hold Me Now lyrics”, this Thompson Twin’s song was popular when I had ny first big crush on a girl and just thinking about actually proves a head-heart-head connection. Thinking of her when we were nine and what we tried then doesn’t do much for me now, except prove my wife’s point I have been a pervert all my life, however thinking about her when we were eight certainly did more than stir parts of heart. The last Google Trends search that peaked my interest here was “tell me some good lyrics”.

In the spirit of that last request tell me some of your favorite lyrics.

Stan Lee’s Gay Hero Two NBC Series Axed

What’s Hot is back in action. For those wondering what happened, your intrepid blogger Katy (that’s me), had a baby! But it’s time to get back to the latest in Hollywood gossip, news and other goings on.

The man behind Spiderman, Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk is creating a new superhero. Stan Lee is developing an hourlong project with Showtime that will track the life of a gay superhero. Story, which focuses on an up-and-coming superhero who struggles to hide his secret identities, is based on the book “Hero” by Perry Moore. Moore is penning the script and also exec producing along with Hunter Hill. Lee is also involved with Paramount in developing not only the sequel to this year’s smash hit Iron Man but a Thor movie and The Avengers movie.

Christian Slater and Brooke Shields need to call their agents stat. NBC announced that their series, My Own Worst Enemy and Lipstick Jungle have both been cancelled according to inside sources. NBC hasn’t confirmed anything as of yet but the fact that they haven’t ordered additional episodes for either show is especially telling. Though both shows still have five unaired episodes it is unclear as to whether NBC will pull the shows immediately or let the rest of the filmed episodes air.

Oh Dear God Why?

Okay, I understand that here are only so many stories to tell and that Hollywood is going to do whatever it can to save money on making movies so it can rake in the profits. That’s why sequels and remakes get made. But in recent years, Hollywood has started in on some movies that I grew up with and bandied about the word “remake”.

First off is “Tron”. The hallmark of early CGI work has had it’s name tossed around as remake fodder for quite a while now. It could be done given the strides that have been made in special effects circles, but then it’s taken away from what makes “Tron” a great movie. It’s the low budget effects that makes us love it so.

Not a film I grew up with, but one that is considered classic is “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. How many people have the icon image of Klatuu standing in front of his ship branded into their brains? Well this year a remake is being released featuring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connoly. I’m trying to reserve my judgement until I’ve seen it, but my brain automatically switches into “WHY?” gear.

Not all remakes are successful. See Gus Van Sant’s “re-imagining” of the Hitchcock classic “Psycho”. Anytime a Stephen King movie gets remade for television. “House of Wax’ (though killing off Paris Hilton may seem a plus). And now comes the news that “The Karate Kid” is getting remade, with Jaden Smith. WHY??????? Ralph Maccio (who turned 47 recently) will always and forever be my “Karate Kid”. I will always picture Pat Morita when I hear the words “Wax on, wax off”.

Hollywood, sometimes it’s best just to leave things well enough alone.
