R Kelly Guilty of Sex Crimes

rkelly.thumbnail R Kelly Guilty of Sex CrimesYes, I know he was found not guilty by a jury of his peers, but if you look online no one seems to give a damn about that. Almost every story over at Digg other similar places seems to be about how this is a miscarriage of justice. They seem to think he should have been not only sent to jail but turned into a eunuch.

As someone who has seen the effects of abuse, I want anyone who hurts kids to suffer severe pain and agony. As a person who also believes in the law I hate it when a person judged not guilty is continued to be persecuted. While I know full well some of the guilty manage to avoid being convicted, it doesn’t mean that we have the right to continue to harass them. We put up our guard and act responsibly; we do not get to become vigilantes.

If the laws, rights, and freedoms we claim to be fighting for in Iraq for other people mean anything, then we must uphold them here at home. Sometimes that means accepting a jury verdict we don’t like, or not prosecuting someone else at all because there isn’t enough to convict them on. The one thing it always means though is we have no right to take the law into our own hands.

Hmm I can not say that I agree with you my friend. Accepting the laws and judgments passed down from our courts blindly can wreak havoc in this country. The jurors i this case have said themselves they believe that was Kelly who was on the tape. However they could not be sure that the girl the prosecution claimed it was, was in deed the young lady on the tape. They believed that the person was underage, but could not pinpoint the person’s identity.

Let these people continue to bash R. Kelly, email their senators and congressmen to get laws passed that forbade child porn and help the criminal Justice system fight such animals. Only then can change be achieved,w hen we become apart of the change we wish to see.!

Whether you like the jury verdict or not you have to accept that it was handed down and double jeopardy applies and move on. This jury found him not guilty of the crimes he was charged with, plain and simple. I am not saying he didn’t didn’t break the law, only he was found not guilty of the crimes he was charged with and we have to accept that.

What the jury or the prosecution actually believe is irrelevant once the not guilty verdict has been handed down. This in no way means that we should forget or think we don’t need to protect our children, but it does mean if we hold the law or rights we say we are fighting for to mean anything we can not start advocating vigilante justice. If the prosecution didn’t have the evidence to prove it was this girl or that the girl in question was actually underage then they blew the case by going forward.

You can fight for all the change you want and when it becomes law you prosecute. You can not however charge people with crimes that are not written law or write a law to prosecute a crime that already happened, those are the actions of totalitarian regimes and dictatorships, not of free people. While this administration has gone out of its way to evade the written law, that in no way entitles others to do the same.

R Kelly had his day in court, now it is time to move on.
