Another edition of What’s Hot fresh to your computer!
Will The Dark Knight soon be joining the company of Lord of The Rings: Return of the King, Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest and Titanic? It may already be there, acccording to some sources. As of midweek, box office numbers had the blockbuster at $996 million dollars, so it’s quite likely that with unreported grosses, TDK is number four on that very exclusive list. But why isn’t the studio crowing with triumph? Warner Brothers may very well be waiting for the DVD release which is on December 9. Warners is boosting The Dark Knight’s release by 200-plus theaters this weekend. Is this an attempt to boost the already great numbers for the film. Read more

What’s Hot is back in action. Spoilers for Brothers & Sisters, Ugly Betty and Supernatural in today’s edition.
In an exclusive from Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, Brooke Smith of Grey’s Anatomy reveals that she’s been let go from the show and that her storyline, in which her character has recently began to explore her sexuality, has been cut out and other homosexual storylines are being toned down. According to one Grey’s source, the suits “had issues” with both the explicit direction her character was taking and, more importantly, with the Hahn character in general. And this seems to have been an order from above (read: the network) rather than the producers. Smith is quoted as saying: “And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character anymore.” Here is the entire response from executive producer Shonda Rhimes: “Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it’s not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show – Calliope Torres. Sara Ramirez is an incredible comedic and dramatic actress and we wanted to be able to play up her magic. Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke’s character would sustain in the long run. The impact of the Callie/Erica relationship will be felt and played out in a story for Callie. I believe it belittles the relationship to simply replace Erica with ‘another lesbian.’ If you’ll remember, Cristina mourned the loss of Burke for a full season.” Read more

What’s Hot is dispelling some rumors and giving up the latest news.
Fear not Pushing Daisies fans, the show is still alive and well. ABC has not yet informed producers whether the series will end after its initial 13-episode order for the current season. In fact, show runner Bryan Fuller confirms that he has not received any word yet on the show’s fate. The current rumor being spread is that Daisies producers were told by ABC to treat episode 13 (which begins filming Monday) as a series finale, which some fans have interpreted as definitive news that the network decided to cancel the series. Not so say reliable sources. Producers have not yet been told whether they will receive a pickup for the remaining nine episodes of the current second season, and that is still a possibility. What’s Hot has all the latest scoop and gossip. Possible spoilers for NCIS, Fringe and Chuck in this edition.
In the continuing saga of Project Runway, the Weinstein company has added yet another nasty layer. Papers were filed in New York federal court by Weinstein claiming they were wronged by Bravo’s intentional refusal to promote the show’s most recent Season 5 run. According to the papers, Weinstein said Bravo sabotaged both Runway’s ratings and value by running very few ads — which were referred to as “mundane and unappealing” — and also claimed the network was far too lax with providing press info for the season premiere and/or revealing spoilers for future episodes. Bravo’s parental unit, aka NBC Universal, released the following statement: “Not only do we categorically disagree with the Weinstein’s Co.’s assertions, but the fact is that Season 5 was the most-watched and highest-rated Project Runway cycle ever.” Either way, Runway fans are hoping this gets resolved soon.
