Fans and Friends of The Other Blog

March 27, 2008

It may be a few days before you see posts to The Other Blog.  Do to Dot5Hosting’s inefficiency and unsatisfactory service, I am forced to move to a new host.  If anyone has suggestions for great hosting companies that will support WordPress 2.3.3 please let me know in the coming days at admin@theotherblog.com.  For those who are considering using Dot5Hosting for any service I suggest you look elsewhere.  I have seen more professionalism and technical capability out of half-witted high school kids.  Stay away from Dot5Hosting!  If you wan a prime example of why not to host with them it took 6minutes for the write a post page to load from the dashboard.   The last time I activated a plugin it took 8 minutes from clicking the link to it was active.  This is after they assured me they were working to speed up their mysql servers.

Brad.

BTW In the mean time  I will be posting a backup of the other blog to Brad’s Tiny World in a subdomain.  look for information there later this afternoon.

American Idol Results 3-26-08

March 26, 2008

I am glad other people are noticing Simon is attempting to show off his chest. I have a friend who works as a trainer at his gym and she says it is nice and worth showing off, but I will just have to her word for it. If Ramiele would use the kind of voice she did in the intro song, Get Back Where Started From she would never be in trouble. Now that I have heard Kristy, the same thing could be said of her. Ten goes to nine tonight

Idol Tonight

March 25, 2008

ramiele.thumbnail Idol Tonight Ramiele is pulling herts alone and sounding great to start andlooking fine in the boots and some leg. She hits a few notes that weren’t quite pitch perfect but not bad and hse hits my favorite parts just right. Randy was not happy. Paula liked her knowing she was sick. Simon thinks she will make it.

jason_c.jpg Does Sting. Fragile is nice, but nothing really special. Randy says it was nice but it wasn’t special. Paula liked it, but didn’t see any wow either. Simon wasn’t impressed with the performance. He didn’t really hate it, but didn’t think it was serious enough to win.

syesha.thumbnail Idol Tonight Syeshais is another 1987 kid. She doesn’t sound bad doing Gladys Night’s If I was your woman. It was nice, but not really special. Randy and Paula love it, but Simon didn’t think it was as good as the others in the end.

chikezie.jpg Chikezie is a child of 1985. If only for one night comes out a little pitchy at first, but not a bad rendition. Not as nice as Luther but who is. He pulls it out in the end though. Randy doesn’t love this. Paula found it nice. Simon misses the personality, but thought it was sang well.

brooke.jpgMBrooke is going to sing The Police. Every Breath you take is one of my favorite Police songs and the one I was hoping she would do when I figured out when she was born. This might be her best performance yet. Randy was okay with it, didn’t like the bands arrangement. Paula liked it. Simon didn’t like the band coming in, but thinks it was good enough to come back. She started and stopped, which is an amount of realism that I really like. She knew it was right on the first bar and said.

michael.jpgMichael is a child of 1978 doing Queen. He rocks us with We Will Rock You and We are the Champions. It wasn’t Freddy and the boys, but it shouldn’t be either. Randy thought it was his best performance yet. Paula was impressed. Simon though though this was the first time he had seen star potential out of Michael. It was good, but I would have like to have heard his other choices.

carly.thumbnail Idol TonightCarly is a virgo of 1983 and I am in love. Total eclipse of the heart is a great choice of song for her. if she deserved to be in the bottom last week she deserves to be in the top this week. Randy didn’t think it was the right song for her. Paula loved it. She would buy anything Carly records. Simon didn’t think something worked right for him. He didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t great. I thought so except the last note, but so what the rest of the song was great.

david_a.jpgArchuleta will probably make me hate him a little more this week. As a Child of 1990. The clip of his older sister was hot. You’re the Voice starts rough and the band is over powering. The problem with having a great sound system hooked to your tv is you have to hear bad songs done horribly. Randy loved it. Paula thinks he can sink the phone book and it would be good. Simon thought it was at best a theme park performance better suited for Chuckee C Cheese. I think there was a slam at David’s Daddy.

kristy.thumbnail Idol TonightKristy Lee Cook is another child of 1984 is brave doing God Bless the USA it seems to suit her voice.  If she is going to go out pissing Simon off would be the way to go and I doubt he likes this one.  I like it much better than the original.  Katy thought her best performance yet.  Randy liked it.  Paula thought it was a good choice.  Simon says best performance by a mile.

david_c.jpg Cook pulls an original acoustic version of Billie Jean.  This makes me a fan.  I hope he ends up not winning so he can make the album he wants, rather than the album the producers want.  He let his voice go to town.  I was hoping at first he would pull out the guitar and rock 1982, but this was great.  Randy thought he could win it all.  Paula said brilliant.  Simon said brave and amazing..  This was one of the best cover songs of anything i have ever heard.  I would still have loved him to whip out the guitar and tried Crimson and Clover.

All in all only David Archuleta sucked tonight.  I hope he goes home.

Low Carb Things to do with Hamburger

March 21, 2008

Several places I go I keep seeing the same question what more can I do with hamburger.  I often times tell these people what I do, then I had an epiphany.  I wasn’t doing anything to really help these people by telling them the answer over and over again.  Many of them honestly didn’t seem to know to do a Google search so in the nature of helping my fellow carnivores and to save on the number of times I have to type out a list here we go

  1. Broil a patty topped with your  favorite cheese
  2. Broil a Patty topped with salsa
  3. Broil a Patty topped with bacon
  4. Make taco meat for taco salad
  5. Make mini meatloaves.   If you are feeding a family it is easy to make several kinds, either low carb or not, for different people.  it is also a way to get kinds involved in cooking.  I prefer to mix my beef with ground pork for meat loaf.
  6. Make meatballs.
  7. Make Buffalo Moo (meatballs rolled in your favorite wing sauce) [Read more]

    Sera Cahoone

    March 21, 2008

sera Sera CahooneLike many new artists I find, I have found Sera Cahoone on NPR. She was the featured artist on song of the day for March 14, 2008 with You’re Not Broken

NPR.org, - Sera Cahoone has been playing warm, easygoing, country-tinged roots music ever since shedding her role as Band of Horses’ drummer a few years ago. In that time, she’s come to suit a specific mood to perfection: With titles such as “You’re Lookin’ Tired,” “Couch Song,” and “I’m on Your Side,” Cahoone’s songs are about comforting the weary - acknowledging exhaustion while offering reassurance.

She has several wonderful tracks and on her MySpace page for you to listen to. My personal favorite of the four is Last Time with its classic bluegrass feel. This is music that speaks for itself and I give Sera a 8.5 of 10 based on what music I have been able to listen to online and look forward to getting a cd that I can sit and enjoy at my leisure. Missy Higgins - A Musical Review

    March 20, 2008

Missy Higgins has a haunting new song in Where I Stood. The simple melody gets into your soul. If you have ever been madly in love and stop to listen to the lyrics be straight, gay, or otherwise they will strike a chord with you too.

Once described as “…the antithesis of the manufactured pop starlet…” Missy sits fine in my view of Australian Indie Music. One of the things I love most of her music is the fact she still has her accent when she sings. I hear her know without a doubt that she is Australian. While I am sure some will mistake the origin of her accent, that doesn’t matter. The fact it hasn’t been removed during in a million dollars of overproducing makes this music real for me.

You can listen to Missy’s latest album On a Clear Night, which includes Where I Stood on her website: www.missyhiggins.com I couldn’t find a bad track on the entire album and will soon be ordering a copy for myself.

Below are several YouTube clips of other songs of her from previous releases. They are great and deserve a listen. Once you do I think you be as smitten as I am. [Read more]
